Tour overview
1. Port Blair
Port Blair is the capital of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and the main gateway to this stunning archipelago. The city is known for its rich colonial history, with the iconic jail cells or “Kalapani” housing political prisoners during the British rule. Visitors can explore museums and local markets, and enjoy the lively waterfront. Port Blair also has beautiful beaches such as Corbyn’s Cove, and is the departure point for ferries to nearby islands.
2. Ross Island (Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Island)
A short boat ride from Port Blair, Ross Island was once the administrative headquarters of the British during the colonial period. Today, it is an archaeological site filled with the remains of colonial buildings such as military camps, churches, and hospitals that have been submerged by nature. The island is now known for its hauntingly beautiful ruins, lush greenery, and friendly deer and peacocks that roam freely. It also offers panoramic views of the surrounding sea and other nearby islands.
3. Havelock Island (Swaraj Dweep)
Havelock Island is the most famous tourist destination in the Andaman Islands, famous for its stunning Radnagar Beach (often ranked as one of the best beaches in Asia). The island has pristine white sands, turquoise waters and rich marine life, perfect for diving and snorkeling. Other popular attractions include Elephant Beach and Kala Patta Beach, perfect for swimming and relaxing. Havelock is a prime location for adventure activities such as kayaking, snorkeling and underwater trekking.
4. Neil Island (Shaheed Dweep)
Neil Island is quieter and smaller compared to Havelock, making it ideal for travelers looking for a more laid-back experience. It boasts beautiful beaches such as Bharatpur Beach, Laxmanpur Beach, and Sitapur Beach. Neil is known for its lush greenery, dense coconut groves, and serene environment. The natural bridge formation known as “Howrah Bridge” is a unique attraction on the island. Snorkeling, cycling, and walking along its secluded beaches are popular activities.
5. Baratang Island
Baratang Island is known for its unique natural wonders, located about 100 km from Port Blair. It is famous for its Limestone Caves, which showcase stunning stalactite and stalagmite formations, and the Mud Volcano, a rare geological feature. The journey to Baratang often involves passing through dense mangrove creeks and forests, which are part of the Jarawa tribal reserve. This area provides an immersive experience in the raw and untamed beauty of the Andaman Islands.
