Tour overview
Tibetan, Mount Kailash means “mountain of god”. It is located on the remote Western Tibetan plateau. It is one of the most sacred places in the Earth for the devotees belonging to Hinduism, Buddhism Jainism, and Bonpo religions. Hindus describe this place as an abode of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Buddhists believe it as a meditating spot of Lord Buddha. Jains consider it as a place where their first saint attains Liberation from the natural cycle of the mortal life.
This black peak at an elevation of 6714 meters has age long spiritual influence and religious significance. Ancient Hindu scripture associate the holy Mount Kailash as “Sumeru Parvat” or “Meru Parvat”. To complete the arduous foot walk called Kailash Kora or Kailash Parikrama around the Kailash area of 53kms is believed to be the way of releasing from the known or unknown sins ever committed in the life attaining ultimate salvation called “Mokshya”.
Mount Kailash is the source of four holy rivers of Asia namely, The Brahmaputra, The Indus, The Ganges and The Sutlej River. It is not so easy to accomplish the circumambulation of Kailash Parvat. Devotees even rotate the beginning point of the Kora (Circuit) “Yamadwar “and return back. This provides them the feeling of reaching Kailash Parvat. This mountain has become a center of attraction for the devotees around the world. Ever year huge numbers of people venture this spiritual land via Nepal.
Mansarovar Lake: There is another center of attraction of this holy pilgrimage that is Mansarovar Lake. Many ancient mythologies are associated to this Lake. It has age long spiritual and religious significance for Hindus and Buddhists. Lord Shiva and goddess Parvati are believed to have bath in this Lake. The name of this lake has been derived from Sanskrit languages, “Manas” means mind or consciousness and “Sarovar” means Lake. This lake is believed to be the source of knowledge and wisdom. It is believed that drinking the water of this lake one can sanctify his /her soul from sins and physical body from sickness. Rotating this lake is not an easier task as this lake is so gigantic with 88 km periphery. The high lamas and devotees bathing, chanting and praying at the shore of the lake inspire the devotees to continue their Journey. An ultimate Salvation and place in heaven is believed to be the reward of this exertion. People believe that one to three rotations of this lake opens the door to heaven for us and we will directly go to the Shiva’s abode after death. The spiritual environment delights every devotee mitigating their anger, anxiety and fear leading them towards the peaceful state of mind and heart.
